What we produce

We are a full-service production company with an in-house team covering every stage of DRTV production; development, scripting, casting, filming, post-production, compliance and delivery.

Our DRTV work spans:

Charity fundraising TV commercials: direct response commercials for broadcast television, designed to generate immediate donations, recruit regular givers or drive emergency appeal responses. We produce to full broadcast specification and manage Clearcast approval end to end.

Digital response films: DRTV-style films produced for digital platforms including social media, YouTube and pre-roll advertising. The same urgent, emotionally structured storytelling as broadcast DRTV, optimised for digital viewing behaviour and multiple format delivery.

Integrated broadcast and digital campaigns: coordinated campaigns that run across TV and digital simultaneously, with consistent messaging and creative across every channel. We plan for all formats from the shoot stage so your campaign works everywhere without compromise.

Charity appeal films: longer-form appeal content for direct mail, email campaigns and owned channels, telling the story behind the ask in more depth than a broadcast slot allows.

Our DRTV clients

Over twenty years we have produced DRTV campaigns for some of the UK’s most recognised charities, fundraising organisations and agencies. Our clients include the RSPCA, Centrepoint and Age UK. Our campaigns have run across Channel 4, ITV, Sky and digital platforms, raising funds for causes that matter and reaching millions of viewers.

Fantastic experience working with this production company on our DRTV ad. Harry & Is are fab and the wider team were professional, efficient, and really understood how to craft a strong direct-response message. The final ad looked great, stayed true to fundraising and the brand, the whole process ran smoothly from start to finish. Highly recommend!” Alessandra Arnott, Arthur London, RSPCA DRTV

Why Clearest experience matters

Clearcast pre-approves all television advertising in the UK before it can be broadcast. For charity DRTV, this process involves specific requirements around fundraising appeals, vulnerable contributors, claims substantiation and the ASA broadcast code, requirements that are different from standard commercial advertising.

We have navigated Clearcast many times and know exactly what’s needed at every stage. We build compliance into the process from the script stage, which means fewer rounds of amends, no last-minute surprises and a smoother path to air.

How we work

Every DRTV production is led by a dedicated producer who stays with you from first brief through to final delivery. We work closely with fundraising and communications teams and understand the pressures of fundraising deadlines, media buying schedules and compliance timelines.

Development we start by understanding your fundraising objectives, your audience and what you need the film to achieve. We develop a creative treatment that balances emotional storytelling with direct response mechanics, the hardest part of DRTV to get right, and share it for your feedback before any production begins.

Pre-production scripting, storyboarding, casting, location sourcing, scheduling and logistics. For beneficiary-led DRTV we work closely with your team on contributor care, safeguarding and consent from the very beginning.

Production our crew has twenty years of experience filming in sensitive environments and with real beneficiaries. We know how to capture authentic, dignified stories that connect emotionally and drive response.

Post-production and Clearcast editing, colour grade, sound design, music and graphics, followed by Clearcast submission and compliance review. We manage the full submission process and handle any amends required.

Delivery final films delivered in every format required: broadcast masters, digital cuts, social versions and any additional formats for your media plan.

Every DRTV project is different, and we always work to find the right creative approach for the available budget. We are always happy to discuss budget requirements openly and find the right approach for your campaign.

As a guide: A charity DRTV fundraising commercial for broadcast, including Clearcast approval and full broadcast delivery, typically ranges from £15,000–£40,000 depending on production scale, casting and media requirements.

Digital-only response films, without the broadcast compliance requirements, typically start from £8,000–£15,000 depending on scope.

We are always happy to talk through a brief and give an honest assessment of what’s achievable at different budget levels. Get in touch →

Frequently asked questions

What is DRTV and how does it work for charities? DRTV stands for Direct Response Television, advertising designed to generate an immediate, measurable response such as a donation or regular gift sign-up. For charities it typically takes the form of a 60 or 90-second commercial combining an emotional beneficiary story with a clear, urgent call to action. It remains one of the most cost-effective ways to acquire new regular donors at scale.

What is Clearcast and do you handle the submission? Clearcast pre-approves all TV advertising in the UK before it can be broadcast. We manage the full Clearcast submission process end to end, including preparing the compliance documentation specific to charity fundraising appeals, so you don’t have to navigate it yourself.

Can you produce DRTV for a smaller charity? Yes. We work with charities at different scales and can advise on cost-effective approaches that still meet broadcast standards. We will always give you an honest assessment of whether DRTV is the right tool for your campaign and budget before you commit.

Do you produce digital as well as broadcast DRTV? Yes. We produce DRTV-style response films for digital platforms including social media, YouTube and pre-roll, as well as full broadcast TV commercials. For most campaigns we plan and shoot for both broadcast and digital from the outset.

How long does a DRTV production take? A DRTV commercial typically takes eight to twelve weeks from brief to broadcast delivery, including Clearcast approval. We’ll agree a clear timeline at the start of every project and work to your media buying schedule.

Do you work with charity agencies as well as charities directly? Yes. We work with both charities commissioning directly and charity agencies commissioning on behalf of their clients. We are happy to work as a production partner to agencies on DRTV briefs.
