Filming Across Europe, Africa and Beyond

Nutmeg Productions is a London-based video production company, but London is very much just our base. Over twenty years we’ve built up the experience, the contacts and the production systems to film comfortably across Europe, Africa and beyond, for clients whose stories don’t stop at the UK border.

Where we’ve filmed

We cover the full EMEA region regularly for one of our long-standing financial services clients, which in practice means filming in every country in the EU as well as further afield in countries such as Zambia and Malawi. For this client alone we’ve become genuinely fluent in the logistics of fast-turnaround international production: we’re as comfortable jumping on a train to Europe for a one-day shoot as we are managing a multi-week production in Africa with the help of local crew and complex kit logistics.

Beyond that ongoing relationship, our international productions have taken us to Romania, where we filmed the SVP Mercher Family documentary, spending two days with a family in rural Romania with a local translator and drone operator, and across Belgium and the Netherlands for the Metro Charity SHIFT campaign, a six-film drama series produced at the tail end of Covid-19 restrictions that required local casting, local crew and location filming in multiple countries simultaneously.

What international production actually involves

The practical demands of filming internationally are often underestimated. Working across borders means managing equipment transport, local crew relationships, location permits, travel logistics and, where relevant, language and cultural considerations, all simultaneously. We’ve developed the systems and the relationships to handle all of this smoothly, so the creative work isn’t compromised by logistical complexity.

International filming as part of a wider brief

Most of our international work isn’t commissioned as “international production”, it’s simply what a brief requires. A financial services client with teams across EMEA needs content from multiple markets. A charity with international programmes needs films that reflect where the work actually happens. We treat international filming as a normal part of delivering the right film for the brief, not as a specialist add-on that requires a different conversation.
