Farrer & Co
Farrer’s New Brand on Film

The Client

Farrer & Co is one of London’s most respected and long-established law firms, with a history stretching back over 300 years and a client list that has included the Royal Family, major cultural institutions and some of the UK’s leading private individuals and businesses. The firm is known for combining deep legal expertise with a genuine understanding of its clients’ worlds.

After three centuries, Farrer & Co undertook a significant rebranding, a process that required them to articulate what the firm stood for, what made it distinct, and how it wanted to be seen both internally and by the wider world.

The Brief

Farrer & Co commissioned Nutmeg to create a series of films that would document their rebranding journey, capturing both the process and the meaning behind it. The films needed to work in two directions at once: inward, helping staff understand and connect with the new brand; and outward, communicating to clients and the legal world what the rebrand represented and why it mattered.

The brief required us to get under the skin of a complex institution, to understand what Farrer & Co genuinely valued, how its people felt about the firm, and how those feelings could be translated into something honest and compelling on screen.

The Film

We spent several days at the firm, meeting staff across departments, listening to their stories and building the trust that honest interview footage requires. The brand guidelines became not just a visual reference but a creative prompt: we used them as a starting point for conversations with staff about how they perceived the firm and how they felt it was seen from the outside.

The result was a series of films that documented Farrer & Co’s rebranding journey with genuine depth, using staff voices, location filming and archival materials to tell a story that was both historically grounded and forward-looking.

The graphic palette from the new brand ran consistently through the edit, giving the films a visual coherence that tied the content to the rebrand itself, the films and the brand becoming part of the same story.

The Result

A series of brand and business films that gave Farrer & Co a lasting document of one of the most significant moments in their recent history and a set of assets that could be used internally with staff, shared with clients, and deployed as part of the firm’s ongoing communications.

The project demonstrates the particular skill involved in making films for heritage institutions: the need to honour what has been built over decades while making an honest, credible case for what is changing and why.
