The Client

Coventry University is one of the UK’s leading modern universities, consistently ranked among the top institutions in the country and known for its strong industry partnerships and focus on applied, career-ready education. The university is at the forefront of research and skills development in areas of national strategic importance, including the transition to electric vehicles and the broader electrification of the UK economy.

The Electric Revolution Skills Hub – ERS Hub – is a digital platform developed by Coventry University to address one of the most pressing workforce challenges in the UK: preparing employers, individuals and training providers for the shift to electrification across industry.

The Brief

Coventry University needed a 90-second animated explainer to introduce the ERS Hub to potential partners, employers, training providers and academic institutions who might join the platform. The film needed to work hard in a short time: establish the scale of the electrification challenge, explain what the ERS Hub is and how it works, and make the case for getting involved.

The audience was a mixed one – business leaders, HR directors, training specialists and academics – all of whom needed to leave the film with the same clear understanding of the platform’s value, whatever their starting point.

Our Approach

We developed the creative style directly from the ERS Hub’s brand guidelines, using its colour palette and visual identity as the starting point. Through a series of style frames and storyboards, we established a clean, high-tech aesthetic that reflected the forward-looking nature of the platform without feeling cold or technical.

The animation combines moving graphics, supporting text and a clear VoiceOver, giving the viewer multiple channels through which to absorb the information. The pacing is confident and direct: this is a film with a job to do, and every second is used purposefully.

The 90-second running time was a deliberate discipline, long enough to communicate the idea properly, short enough to hold attention on social media and in pitch presentations where every second of a decision-maker’s time counts.

The Result

The ERS Hub explainer animation launched across Coventry University’s website and social media channels, giving the platform a polished, professional face from day one. A film of this quality signals to potential partners that the ERS Hub is a serious, well-resourced initiative, which matters enormously when you’re asking businesses and training providers to commit time and resource to something new.

The animation demonstrates Nutmeg’s ability to take a complex, multi-stakeholder brief and distil it into clear, compelling visual communication, a skill that is as valuable in the corporate sector as it is in education.
