At Nutmeg Productions, we know that post-production is the stage of a video project that clients can feel most removed from — the shoot is done, the excitement of the filming day has passed, and suddenly you’re being asked to review edits and give feedback on something technical and unfamiliar. We’ve spent twenty years refining how we make this stage as clear, collaborative and stress-free as possible.
How our review process works
Once filming is complete, our post-production team begins editing your film or animation. At agreed stages of the production timeline, we share a secure link to your edit via Vimeo Review – our review platform of choice for the past several years, and one we’d recommend to any client for its simplicity and security.
Vimeo Review allows you to watch your film and leave time-coded comments directly on the footage, so rather than writing a long email saying “there’s something around the two-minute mark I’d like to change,” you can click on the exact moment and leave your note right there. Our edit team sees exactly what you mean, every time.
What you’ll typically see
Most productions move through three review stages:
A first draft: the initial edit, where the overall structure, pacing and narrative are established. This is the stage to raise any significant structural notes.
A second draft: a more polished version incorporating your first round of feedback. At this stage we’ll also be working on elements like music, colour grade and graphics.
A final version: the completed film, ready for delivery across your chosen platforms and formats.
Throughout the process your dedicated Nutmeg producer keeps everything on track, ensuring your feedback is incorporated and that every element – subtitles, voiceover, music, motion graphics – comes together on schedule.
Seeing it in practice
Our RSPCA Sponsorship DRTV film is a good example of how the review process works across a complex production. The film followed rescue dog Elton from rescue through to adoption, and required careful calibration across multiple edit stages, tracking comments from different client teams, balancing emotional impact with the direct response requirements of a DRTV ad, and delivering both long and short form versions for use across different channels. You can see the finished film on our RSPCA case study page. The instructional video walkthrough in this post also features our Lidl recipe film production as a worked example of the review stages in practice.
